A Houston based counselor

I’m Keil Davis, a licensed professional counselor with 10 years of experience who works with people 13 years of age and up, who are confused about life and have become angry, stressed, distant, anxious, unmotivated, isolated, depressed, and/or suicidal.

I help people explore and understand the very things that confuse them, whether it is managing emotions, family dynamics, communication, organization, self-esteem, experiencing grief, navigating social dynamics with healthy boundaries, how to make sense of thoughts and feelings, or how to build resilience. My goal is to assist my clients in finding communication skills, coping skills, peace, and understanding. Our problems sometimes stem from family dynamics, therefore I work with families as well.

The first step is the hardest. Know that I offer a free 30 minute phone consultation. Give me a call and see if this is something you want to pursue. I would be honored to be able to help.

My Values

Open Minded: My goal with every client is to see the world and the self through their eyes in order to truly understand what they are going through.

Respectful: I display respect from the introduction, during our sessions by having a deep admiration for my clients, and well after our sessions have ended by maintaining firm boundaries around confidentiality.

Collaborative: My clients and I are partners in discovering different perspectives, new truths, and solutions.

Compassionate: From the Latin root of “to suffer together”. Counseling is a mutually transforming process that I’ll be fully engaged in during our sessions.

My Story

As a kid you would have found me playing sports with friends or running around in the outdoors. Nature was, and still is, where I feel most at home. I was fortunate to remain blissfully unaware of significant emotional struggle until I was about 24 when a proper depression set in. It was then that I was introduced to CBT and was immediately drawn to the structure it provided to thoughts and how I was able to make sense of what I was thinking and feeling.

At this point in my life I was still unsure of what I wanted to do for a career. I worked different jobs in retail and oil & gas, lived in different places, and saved every penny to spend on backpacking trips around the world. It was somewhere in Brazil in 2011 that someone asked me if I had ever thought about becoming a counselor, a path I had never considered. I had always loved psychology, I had always had a strong desire to help others, and I always enjoyed deep conversations about meaningful ideas and experiences. I began researching the career and the more I discovered the more I was drawn toward it.

I had 3 more months until I was to fly out of Bogota, Colombia. I spent that time studying for the GRE and getting ready to begin a new chapter of life upon my return to Texas. I couldn’t wait to get back. Once on Texas soil I hit the ground running, I took the GRE, got accepted to Sam Houston State University’s master’s program, and began hiking the trail that eventually led me to where I am now: The owner/operator of a private practice in the Museum District of Houston where I help people who are in difficult times in life and lacking direction or momentum.
